From: Self To: TRC-L Subject: Karlsruhe City Grid Send reply to: Lukas Kautzsch Date sent: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 14:49:28 +0100 On last Saturday (98/07/11) Karlsruhe, Germany, staged its first ever NR tourney. It was an beginners' only event (thus not advertised here) I hosted for the weefles I had introduced to the game in the last few months. Of the 8 people registered two had second thoughts, so we had to play with 6 (one guy having played one tourney before was admitted to avoid byes). The format was Sealed Deck (1 starter, 1 1.0 booster). The first round took very long (all six games would have been unfinished if I had insisted on the 45 min time limit), afterwards it went a bit faster. And here are the results: opp. games games AP 1. Thorsten Kootz, Karlsruhe (65.5B.AE) 6-0 60-15 2. Ingmar Hofsaess, Karlsruhe 3-3 10.5 38-33 3. Roland Schediwy, Nussloch (65.5B.42) 3-3 10.5 41-39 4. Stefan Puchta, Karlsruhe 3-3 9.0 32-34 5. Ralph Schmieder, Karlsruhe 1.5-4.5 7.5 22-43 6. Hannes Hahn, Karlsruhe 1.5-4.5 7.5 15-44 Scoring was by games won. The first tiebreaker (opponent's games won) turned out to be not very useful (because of the low number of players and rounds), so AP differential was used as second tiebreaker. Anyway the winner (not surprisingly the only player with tournament experience) was undisputed and had even faced the players on places 2, 3 and 4 (pairing was done using the 1v2, 3v4, 5v6 system). Prizes were given from the "demo material" by WotC (thanks, Jen) - there is still mucho left to be distributed to interested parties... For the records (and the rankings, if such an "invitational" tournament should be included there - Matthias, do you read me?) the results of the single matches: round 1: Thorsten - Stefan C10-R0 R10-C5 Ingmar - Roland C10-R3 R6-C10 Ralph - Hannes C0-R10 R10-C0 round 2: Thorsten - Ingmar C10-R0 R10-C2 Roland - Ralph C10-R3 R10-C0 Stefan - Hannes C10-R2 R4-C3 (unfinished) round 3: Thorsten - Roland C10-R6 R10-C2 Ingmar - Hannes C10-R0 R10-C0 Stefan - Ralph C3-R5 R10-C4 The first "official" (i.e. open) tournament of Karlsruhe City Grid is tentatively scheduled for August 29th. It will be Sealed Deck (entry fee DM 15 including one double-starter and two 1.0 boosters), prizes donated by WotC include a signed rare (can't remember which one at the moment...).
